i see... yeah I had a similar problem of shifting not doing its thing... ended up that one of the plastic linkage connectors wasnt locked and was a bit loose... check them all

Kenny... I appreciate the info & the offer for help. Sorry I never made it by, but after I talked to you, the next day, I lost all gears but 3rd & 4th on the way to work, so the car was parked for a couple of weeks until my dad got into town to check it out. Since he worked as a VW tech for 20+ years, he spotted the problem immediately. It ended up being the shift ball was completely gone, & also the plastic linkage piece was snapped in 2 pieces. After we installed them, all is good now... Once again, I appreciate the info & the offer for help...
